Assistant Minister/Youthworker Job Description

 

JOB TITLE: Assistant Minister

REPORTS TO: Minister

JOB SUMMARY -

  • Together with the Minister and Leadership team develop and deliver major aspects of church life and ministry appropriate to gifting.
  • To provide senior leadership, oversight and delivery of the strategy, programme and training aspects of the youth ministry of Chiltern Church.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ministry

  • In partnership with the Minister
    • preach and lead monthly as part of the Sunday services programme.
    • organise outreach and community projects
    • be involved in training and developing others.
  • In partnership with the worship team leader be responsible for
    • the vision and direction of the worship function at Chiltern Church
    • introducing new forms, styles and content into the worship function
  • Play a full role as part of the Leadership Team in guiding the direction of the Church.

There is flexibility in allocating ministerial responsibilities to fit in with the gifting and development aspirations.

Youth  (11-21 years)

  • Provide oversight and leadership for the youth strategy as leader of the youth council.
  • Provide senior leadership and supervision of youth programme & training of youth council.
  • Oversee the development of existing and new programmes, material and training resources to facilitate the holistic development of young people connected to Chiltern Church.
  • Provide expertise and support to the youth team in the development and administration of church youth strategy and programmes.
  • Personally deliver elements of the youth programme and generally take a ‘hands on’ approach to all expressions of face to face youth work at Chiltern Church

 DESIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience of Church based youth work with a desire to develop a broader all age ministry.
  • Experience of managing strategy, programmes, and training in ministry initiatives.
  • Experience in managing people and teams, including oversight and direction.
  • Experience in developing and harnessing external partnership opportunities and relationships
  • Youthwork qualification and or experience.
  • Experience in being a team member of a worship team
  • Must be a committed and practising Christian and agree with the EA Basis of Faith

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT          

  1. Full-time contract with six months probation, three months notice period and also subject to a major review every four years.
  2. 40 hour week, with some unsociable hours of work. The Leadership Team however seeks to ensure that working hours are maintained in a sustainable balance
  3. Salary circa £21,000 per annum depending on qualifications, experience and circumstances.
  4. A fully furnished church flat is available. Other accommodation options can be provided, if family circumstances require, or if no accommodation is necessary from the Church salary can be increased appropriately.
  5. Contributions to a pension fund equivalent to 6% of salary.
  6. Help towards any relocation costs.
  7. 5 weeks holiday (2 weeks to be taken in late July/August) plus Bank Holidays).
  8. Support and funding for relevant training
  9. Expenses paid for work relating to the Church.
  10. Annual appraisal supplemented by a major review every four years.
  11. Appointment subject to completion of a health questionnaire, references and CRB check. Becomes a member of the Church Leadership Team on appointment.

Education,Training & Experience

  • Experience in Church based ministry

  • Experience of working with young people aged 11- 21, showing an awareness of their needs and the contemporary issues that face them while helping them to explore the Christian faith in creative and relevant ways within a church context
  • Youth work professional qualification - NYA / JNC preferred
  • Experience of youth and community work.
  • First aid training

  • Proven ability to be self-directing, plan and prioritise workload, show initiative and exhibit a strong work ethic in situations without regular supervision
  • As team leader able to scope vision, plan and deliver youth activities in line with agreed goals
  • Ability to establish positive and helping relationships with young people
  • Proven ability of being an active member of worship team
  • Aptitude for preaching
  • Experience of leading a worship team
  • Ability to network with other agencies and workers
